Must-have baby products without toxic substances

It's shocking how much poison there is still in toys and products for babies. If you know what harmful substances can do, especially to such a vulnerable group, then it is actually crazy that the government does not restrict this much anymore. As a parent you naturally want the best for your little shrimp, but things are not exactly made easy for you. Spending hours googling behind your laptop for the best non-toxic products? Tiring! Fortunately, we have already done some work for you. View our selection of must-have baby products without the junk here!

Baby bottles glass

Although most baby bottles nowadays state ' BPA free ', BPA has often been exchanged for BPS. This new substance is not yet regulated, but several European scientific committees have indicated that they expect BPS to have similar harmful properties to BPA. We therefore recommend that you avoid plastic baby bottles and opt for glass, such as these from Hevea. The bottle is made of strong borosilicate glass and the teat is made of 100% natural rubber.

Natural rubber teat

A pacifier made of plastic that contains BPS can 'leak' hormone disrupting substances. Especially when the plastic becomes warm, such as in your baby's mouth. Does your baby use a pacifier? The safest option we recommend is a 100% natural rubber pacifier, such as this one from Natursutten. It may not have a cozy motif, but it is a lot safer.

Bath mat without plastic

If you are looking for a non-slip bath mat (safe of course), we also recommend natural rubber. And yes, this one is also from Hevea. Add a rubber duck? Then watch out for the rubber duck made of cheap plastic that regularly contains phthalates, bisphenols and other junk. As if that wasn't bad enough, they are also susceptible to mold. A layer of water remains in the rubber duck and that is a paradise for bacteria.

Unpainted romper

It's sad, but baby clothes are also often full of chemical junk. Our advice: only buy baby clothes made from 100% natural materials, such as organic cotton (note: always buy organic because regular cotton is one of the most sprayed crops in the world!), wool or linen. So no mix of cotton and polyester, for example. And preferably with an IVN Best or GOTS certification. These are currently the strictest standards for clothing. Extra bonus points if the clothing is undyed and unbleached , such as this beautiful romper from Engel Natur. It is made of organic wool and silk and wonderfully soft and warm.

Diapers without harmful ones chemicals

Diapers are particularly tricky. There are many harmful substances found in diapers such as formaldehyde, dioxin and PAHs. Long-term exposure to these substances can contribute to allergic reactions and disruption of the hormone balance. The safest option in diaper land is probably the washable organic cotton diaper. But we understand that many parents simply don't want that from a practical point of view. That is why we mention the Bambo Nature disposable diaper here. Free from perfume and parabens and certified by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, Asthma Allergy Nordic, FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) and the EU Ecolabel.

Plastic-free baby wipes

Although you can of course also clean your baby's bottom with water and (of course non-toxic) soap, we now understand that this is not an option for most parents. In any case, you want to avoid as many harmful substances as possible and anyway baby wipes without perfume and alcohol. We therefore think Jackson Reece's plastic-free baby wipes are a much safer choice. She contain 99% water and are free of perfume, alcohol, plastic, parabens, SLS, SLES, lanolin, phthalates, phenoxyethanol and benzoates.

Play mat made of natural material

An Amazon play mat made of 'practical' foam? Well, I'd rather not! These can all contain phthalates and other junk. Of course, your child will not die from a synthetic play mat alone. But the accumulation of toxins (from all kinds of different sources) in such a small body is really not healthy in the long term and can cause all kinds of nasty health problems. Our motto: prevention is better than cure! So play it safe and choose organic cotton, linen or natural latex. What do you think of this play mat from Play&Go ? It is made of 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton and can be used as a cozy baby nest in addition to a play mat.

Baby mattress without toxic substances

Your baby sleeps most of the day, so a safe mattress without toxins is extremely important. A study by the University of Texas has shown that many synthetic baby mattresses, such as cold foam or memory foam, contain toxic substances. Inhaling the substances that are released can lead to all kinds of complaints. So choose a non-toxic mattress made of natural material, such as the Yumeko children's mattress . It has a core of 100% natural latex and a cover of 100% organic cotton, quilted with 100% organic new wool.

Woolen baby blanket

Want to keep your baby warm and comfy under a velvety soft but synthetic fleece blanket? Not a good idea. Fleece is actually just plastic. Just wearing and washing fleece releases millions of plastic fibers. In addition, fleece is not breathable at all. This beautiful blanket from Yumeko is a much safer choice: it is made of 100% merino wool in the natural colors of the sheep and only washed with natural soap.
