Bath products: fragrance, portions and cleaning the tub
Bath products add fragrance, foam, colour or texture to water. Their usefulness depends on your preferences, the directions and the cleanup afterwards.

Decide what the product adds
A bath oil, bubble bath and dissolving bath product do different jobs. Read the intended use and portion rather than treating every product as something to empty into running water. A strong scent or abundant foam is not evidence that the bath cleans better.
If fragrance is unwanted, check for added fragrance and essential oils rather than relying on a natural description. If a product has age restrictions or warnings for sensitive areas, take those seriously. A decorative shape does not make a bath product a toy or food.
Use a deliberate portion
Follow the package method, including whether the product goes into running water or is used another way. Do not combine several products to increase the effect unless the manufacturer provides that method. The resulting mixture has not become more predictable simply because each product was sold for bathing.
Keep unused portions dry and identifiable. A basket of unwrapped colourful products may be difficult to distinguish and can lose the instructions. Retain the label or store each with its packaging, particularly in a home with children or visitors.
If the product makes the bath surface slippery, take care entering and leaving and follow cleanup instructions. Consider whether the format is sensible for anyone who already finds the bath difficult to use.
Include the tub in the purchase decision
Check whether oils, dyes or residue need a particular cleaning method compatible with the bath finish. A product that leaves extensive residue may create more work than you want. Do not reach automatically for an abrasive pad or stronger cleaner, which could damage a surface.
Rinse and clean as the bath and product instructions advise, using a suitable cleaner separately. Never mix cleaning chemicals in an attempt to remove residue faster. A removable bath mat or accessory also needs its own cleaning and drying routine.
If discomfort occurs during bathing, stop using the product and rinse as appropriate. Persistent symptoms deserve advice rather than a switch to another strongly fragranced product. For an ordinary purchase, the best comparison is whether you enjoy the experience and can manage the portion, storage and cleaning it requires.
